For anyone who would like to make a private donation to a worthy lighthouse cause . . . .
September
6-8, 1 volunteer will walk 105 miles, from Key
Largo to Key West,
to help save and restore 6 Reef lighthouses. We hope to raise awareness
and funds, while we wait for Sand Key, Sombrero Key, Alligator Reef, Carysfort
Reef and American Shoal to be released from the Coast Guard under the National
Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. Fowey Rocks has already been transferred
to Biscayne National Park.
As we want to get as many people involved we are asking for a small donation of one dime a mile or $1.00 a mile for a business. This would be an individual donation of $10.50 or a business donation of $105.00 which we feel almost anyone can afford. Will we take larger donations? Of course as restoration and maintenance will be costly.
The first $1,000 raised will be matched by Glenn Swigart. The second $1,000 raised will be matched by Stan Farnham. This is dollar for dollar.
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any sponsor donation, Eric S. Martin - President of the Florida Keys Reef Lights Foundation.
